The progress that counts is hardly noticed…

Because it happens where people don’t see — inside.

As I grow older it becomes more evident to me that I get the most value out of my own growth, again, in ways people can hardly see. I remember some five years ago, I used to be so bothered about what people thought about me. To be honest, I still do but a lot better. The value of weaning myself off of people’s expectations is the freedom to be me which in turn makes life easier and better and more fun to do; all while I am still on a growth trajectory.

This kind of growth, people in your inner-circle may see. Perhaps because you called their attention to it. But definitely, not a lot of people. At least not in the numbers we would have loved. People don’t think about us as much as we think. People think about themselves, it’s human nature.

First, why should we even be bothered about what people think, when they don’t even think about us? The second thing is; true growth happens where people don’t see it but surely where we need it most. And that’s the one that matters because when we show up better, it makes the whole world a little better.
