The Joy is the Journey

I can’t stop walking

Even though I know where not I go

I keep walking

Seeing different faces

Different faces in different phases

I’ve been walking all my life

At the end of each phase a new stock to my collection

At every phase shedding

At every phase a new burden

But in hope I keep going

Looking forward to a new day

Not holding on to a thrill for no excitement lasts forever

Excitement is to the moment

But joy is to the journey

Never looking back, only the weak do

But keeping hope in God, what can’t He do?

The joy is in walking

The joy is in not stopping

The joy is in hoping

The joy is in going; on the journey not obsessed with the destination

The joy is in taking the risk

Like Abraham taking your clan on a stroll based on a voice, a faceless voice

If you’re like me on this journey then keep walking

The moment you realize it’s what you signed up for with your first breath you’ll love it

Or better still try to love it

In loving it, you feel its joy

Those that refused to joy in it died in it!

They were too weak

Their knees gave in

Their eyes closed

Their bones dried

Those of us still walking

Keep mouthing a silent mantra

Knowingly, unknowingly

“The joy is the journey”

With tears on our faces

Yet smiling

Still marching.

Many thanks to Praise Okoye for her contribution to this piece.
